What is Bhakti yoga?

Bhakti yoga is said to be the yoga of the heart, and here the heart is seen as the center of our emotions. Bhakti yoga is about how to use that emotional energy in a positive way, which Bhakti yogi’s call devotion. It’s the yoga of loving devotion, the path of coming to Oneness; dissolving separateness through love.

The purpose of life to the Bhakti yogi is about God; every word, thought, and deed is an offering to the divine. Bhakti focuses on music, mantras, and chants called kirtan.

What is a kirtan?

Kirtan is considered a form of Bhakti Yoga. It’s the practice of repetition of what they call the divine names. Kirtan is the chanting of a mantra and uses a call and response. It begins with someone leading / singing the mantra and the group then repeats or sings it back. It’s a shared experience. There’s singing, and there’s also listening. Both are equally important, as the practice is centered around learning to pay attention and practicing being present in the moment.

Join me at Dirty Feet Yoga in Cedarburg on Sunday, April 27th from 12:00 - 1:15pm for this interactive workshop experience.

Cost of event: $18

Connective Tissue & Emotions

What Is Connective Tissue?

Connective tissue or fascia covers and supports the muscles throughout our entire body.

Visually, think of connective tissue like the white fuzzy layer underneath an orange peel. This tissue is densely woven throughout our muscles, bones, nerves, arteries, veins and organs. It is a continuous structure throughout the body truly interconnecting every part.

My Tissue Stores Emotions?

In traditional Chinese medicine every area of the body is connected to a meridian line or energy channel. Each meridian is connected to a different organ, and every organ is associated with an emotion.

Say I have pain in my lower back. This area of the body is connected to the kidneys, and the emotion associated with the kidneys is fear.

What Will I Learn At This Workshop?

You’ll learn to see the body as more than just connective tissue, muscle, bones, and joints. The body is truly a master teacher, and when there is inner disharmony it’s our job to learn how to listen.

We have many options as to how to work with meridians. We can use compression, stretching, and/or twisting.

This workshop will teach you myofascial release techniques, yin yoga postures, and simple acupressure points that you can use to help move stuck energy within your body.
